Chapter 6: The Line That Changed Everything
Silence filled the line.
Then Brad said something that made my jaw tighten.
“If there’s a dispute, sir, you’ll need to take it up with the HOA.”
I looked out across the six stumps again.
My father’s trees.
The shade they used to cast across the yard.
The privacy they had given my house for most of my life.
And suddenly something became very clear.
The people living up on that ridge had decided my property was nothing more than an obstacle to their view.
What they did not realize yet was that the only road leading into Cedar Ridge Estates crosses the lower corner of my land.
And I own every inch of it.
I hung up without saying goodbye.
Mara watched me carefully.
“Eli,” she said, “what are you thinking?”
