Chapter 11: When Paper Becomes Power
The survey came back three days later.
It confirmed everything.
The trees had been entirely within my property line. Not close. Not debatable. Entirely mine.
And the access road?
The lower section crossed my land by twenty-eight feet at its widest point.
Dana read the report twice before calling me.
“Eli,” she said, “this is bigger than the trees.”
“How much bigger?”
“Big enough that Cedar Ridge may not have legal access unless there’s a recorded easement.”
“Is there?”
“I checked.”
She paused.
“There isn’t.”
For a moment, I said nothing.
Outside, the stumps sat in a row like witnesses.
Dana continued, “You cannot just block a road without considering emergency access and local rules. But you can revoke unauthorized access and demand they establish a proper easement.”
“And if they refuse?” I asked.
Her answer was calm.
