Chapter 13: The Neighborhood Discovers Ownership
Preston arrived twenty minutes later.
He parked sideways near the gate, got out, and marched toward me with his phone in his hand.
“You can’t do this,” he snapped.
“I already did.”
“This is a public access road.”
“No,” I said. “It’s a private road crossing private land without a recorded easement.”
His face reddened.
Behind him, Cedar Ridge residents began recording.
That made him even angrier.
“You’re trapping an entire community because of a few trees?”
“Six trees,” I said. “On land you didn’t own.”
“We’ll sue you.”
“Get in line.”
He stepped closer, lowering his voice.
“Do you know who lives up there?”
I looked past him at the ridge.
At the houses with their wide windows and perfect view of the damage they had ordered.
“People who should have bought a map,” I said.
