Chapter 7: Vivian’s Last Lie
Vivian looked at Silas as if betrayal itself had taken human form.
“You would stand with her?”
Silas’s jaw tightened.
“I’m standing with the truth.”
She laughed bitterly.
“The truth? Your father was a coward. He made mistakes, and I protected this family from scandal.”
“You destroyed a woman,” I said.
Vivian’s eyes snapped to mine.
“Your mother should have known better than to believe a man like Arthur Sterling would choose her.”
The words struck harder than a slap.
For a second, I saw my mother as she had been before sickness hollowed her out. Young. Hopeful. Trusting the wrong man in a house full of wolves.
Silas’s voice went dangerously quiet.
“You framed Elena.”
Vivian did not deny it.
She only lifted her chin.
“I saved your inheritance.”
That was when I understood people like Vivian never saw sin as sin.
Only strategy.
Silas pulled out his phone.
“Then we’ll let the lawyers decide what you saved.”
Vivian finally looked afraid.
Truly afraid.
