Chapter 4: The File in the Chapel
Arthur’s last words had come in broken pieces.
“Elena… not guilty.”
“Vivian switched it.”
“The chapel wall.”
“Tell Leo… he is blood.”
That final sentence was the one I could barely carry.
Tell Leo he is blood.
Silas stared at me as if the floor had disappeared beneath him.
“What does that mean?”
I did not answer because I did not know.
But Vivian did.
I saw it in her face.
Before anyone could stop me, I walked out of the ICU.
Silas followed.
“Where are you going?”
“The chapel.”
The hospital chapel sat at the end of the west corridor, quiet and dim, the kind of place where families made promises they could not keep.
Behind the old wooden cross was a loose panel I had noticed months ago but never touched.
My fingers shook as I pulled it open.
Inside was a sealed envelope.
On it, written in Arthur Sterling’s hand, were three words:
For Elena’s children.
