If it feels like America is standing on the edge of a revival right now, it’s probably because we are.
While overall church attendance has remained relatively steady, something remarkable is happening beneath the surface. Millennials and Gen Z are returning to church in growing numbers, outpacing older generations for the first time in decades. Last year marked a 21-year high in Bible sales in the United States. Even country music—long intertwined with faith—is leaning more openly into spiritual themes. Cody Johnson teamed up with Brandon Lake on “When A Cowboy Prays.” Jelly Roll and Brandon Lake struck gold with “Hard Fought Hallelujah.” Carly Pearce released “Church Girl.”
In a culture saturated with political division and online chaos, people are searching for something deeper—something lasting. Hope rooted in something greater than a pop star or a politician.
And somehow, incredibly, that search has made its way onto Netflix.
Netflix recently revived the iconic talent competition Star Search, hosted by Anthony Anderson with judges Jelly Roll, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Chrissy Teigen. During Week 2, contestant Bear Bailey—known for his viral gas station performances—stepped onto the stage and delivered a breathtaking rendition of “Hard Fought Hallelujah.”
Here’s what makes the moment even more powerful: Bear had chosen the song before he knew Jelly Roll would be a judge.
And then he sang it.
The performance was raw, reverent, and unmistakably Spirit-filled. But what followed may have been even more powerful.
When asked why he chose the song, Bear shared his testimony:
“Because I’m a very imperfect person loved by a perfect God. Jesus has redeemed me from drug addiction. I’ve lost everything because of addiction. I’m not perfect—but I serve a God who is. He believes in redemption. I’m just thankful for God. Thank you, Jesus.”
And then Jelly Roll—already in tears—found his voice.
What he shared wasn’t a rehearsed speech. It was a prayer answered in real time:
“I prayed this morning. I said, ‘God, give me an opportunity to talk about You.’ Night one was great, but I hadn’t lived my purpose yet. God called me here to talk about Him.
What I just saw was a room full of people who might have never felt it before—and that is the Holy Spirit of God.
He doesn’t care about your past. He doesn’t care what you’ve been through. He doesn’t care about your addiction. He is your Father. He is here to redeem you.
He hung so you could stand here and sing His name on the biggest streaming platform in the world—Netflix. Can I get an amen?”
Then Jelly Roll turned back to Bear:
“You took my song and made it yours. You took our song and gave it to God. I know Brandon Lake is somewhere crying right now.”
Let that sink in.
Jelly Roll—of all people—boldly proclaiming the Gospel on a Netflix talent show. Openly weeping. Speaking about redemption, forgiveness, and Christ to millions of viewers worldwide.
Would anyone have predicted this five years ago?
Probably not.
But God did.
Powerful things are happening in America right now. Lives are being changed. Hearts are being stirred. Truth is breaking through places no one expected.
