In 2016, during the CMAs’ 50th-anniversary ceremony, Alan Jackson reportedly stormed out as Beyoncé and the Dixie Chicks performed. Jackson had previously expressed his disapproval of pop stars performing at country music award events.
Before the 2016 event, when asked about his expectations, Jackson stated, “Yeah, they might play some true country music. But, I understand the darn television station trying to garner ratings with anything they think will prop it up, with some huge event with some other type of performer on there.”
Beyoncé’s performance with the Dixie Chicks at the 2016 CMAs received mixed reactions. While many appreciated the collaboration, Jackson appeared dissatisfied and reportedly left the ceremony during the performance.
