The 2022 CMA Awards, set to take place on November 9 at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, will honor country music’s top artists. Alan Jackson, slated to receive the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award, is expected to be part of the celebration. However, past incidents suggest organizers may hope for a smooth presence from Jackson.

In 2016, during the CMAs’ 50th-anniversary ceremony, Alan Jackson reportedly stormed out as Beyoncé and the Dixie Chicks performed. Jackson had previously expressed his disapproval of pop stars performing at country music award events.

Before the 2016 event, when asked about his expectations, Jackson stated, “Yeah, they might play some true country music. But, I understand the darn television station trying to garner ratings with anything they think will prop it up, with some huge event with some other type of performer on there.”

Beyoncé’s performance with the Dixie Chicks at the 2016 CMAs received mixed reactions. While many appreciated the collaboration, Jackson appeared dissatisfied and reportedly left the ceremony during the performance.

In the upcoming 2022 ceremony, Hollywood celebrity Jessica Chastain and Los Angeles Dodgers player Mookie Betts are scheduled to present awards, which might not align with Jackson’s preference for traditional country music figures.

Despite potential controversies, the 2022 CMA Awards promise a star-studded lineup of country singers, including Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire, Chris Stapleton, Luke Combs, and more. The event aims to celebrate the achievements of country music’s finest talents.
