On May 8, 2025, the Academy of Country Music marked a major milestone—60 years of the ACM Awards—with a night full of unforgettable moments and stirring tributes. Among the most emotional highlights was a soul-stirring performance from country icon Alan Jackson, who took the stage to perform his 2003 ballad “Remember When” in what is likely to be his final appearance at the ACMs.
With Jackson set to retire from touring later this month due to ongoing health challenges, the significance of his presence on the ACM stage was deeply felt. Though he’s stepping away from the spotlight, this performance was a powerful reminder of why he remains one of country music’s most beloved and influential voices.
Before he even began to sing, the audience at the Ford Center stood in unison, paying tribute. There were no bells and whistles—just Jackson, the song, and a simple, glowing stage bathed in soft blue light. Behind him, a gentle video montage played as he poured emotion into every lyric. His voice trembled with feeling, and when he reached the final note, tears welled in his eyes—and in the eyes of many watching.
Rather than choosing one of his 36 chart-topping hits, Jackson reached for a song that perfectly matched the night’s theme of reflection and legacy. “Remember When” is a tender look back at a lifetime of love and family, written about his wife Denise and their daughters. Originally released in 2003 as part of his Greatest Hits Volume II, it became a beloved favorite, spending two weeks atop the charts and joining classics like “Chattahoochee” and “Don’t Rock the Jukebox” in his legendary catalog.
The evening opened with a retrospective honoring past Song of the Year winners, creating the perfect backdrop for Jackson’s heartfelt moment. His performance stood as a tribute to the power of simplicity, sincerity, and timeless storytelling—the very essence of what country music stands for, and what Alan Jackson has delivered throughout his career.
In honor of his lasting contributions to the genre, Jackson is set to receive the ACM Lifetime Achievement Award, a recognition of his profound influence on country music across generations.
As Alan Jackson prepares to step away from the stage for good, his 2025 ACM performance will be remembered as a graceful, emotional goodbye from a man whose songs have become woven into the very heart of country music.
