Mariska Hargitay Pays Tribute to Mother Jayne Mansfield on Her 90th Birthday
Actress Mariska Hargitay took a moment to honor her late mother, Jayne Mansfield, on what would have been her 90th birthday. Sharing a heartfelt caption alongside a photo of her mother on Instagram, the Law & Order: SVU star expressed her love.
“Happy birthday Mama. We continue to love you more with each passing day,” Hargitay wrote.
In addition to the photo, Hargitay also shared a video of her mother on her Instagram Story, providing a glimpse into their cherished memories.
Born Vera Jayne Palmer on April 19, 1933, Mansfield rose to fame in the 1950s and 1960s as one of Hollywood’s iconic blonde bombshells. Often compared to Marilyn Monroe, she was affectionately known as the “Working Man’s Monroe.” Mansfield graced the pages of Playboy as a Playmate and appeared in several movies, including Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?, The Girl Can’t Help It, Promises! Promises!, and The Sheriff of a Fractured Jaw.
Tragically, Mansfield’s life was cut short in 1967 when she was involved in a fatal car accident at the age of 34. At the time, Hargitay was only three years old and was in the car with her mother, along with her siblings. While the children survived, Mansfield, her attorney and companion Sam Brody, and their driver Ronnie Harrison lost their lives in the accident.
Reflecting on her early experience with tragedy, Hargitay shared with Glamour in 2021 that she learned about crisis at a young age. She acknowledged that life is unpredictable, but she has found strength in transforming her experiences. She described it as her “superpower” and emphasized the importance of trust and trusting again after going through trauma.
As Jayne Mansfield’s 90th birthday is celebrated, her legacy continues to inspire and her memory lives on in the hearts of her loved ones.
Happy heavenly birthday, Jayne!
