Chapter 6: The Story They Couldn’t Control
Dr. Patel took one look at Marcus, then at the chart in my hands.
“What happened?” he asked.
I turned to the paramedic.
“Repeat exactly what was said at the scene.”
Vanessa stiffened.
The paramedic glanced at his notes. “Female companion identified herself as his sister. Later stated they were leaving the Grand Meridian Hotel when the incident occurred. Security footage was requested by police.”
The room went silent.
Grand Meridian.
Marcus closed his eyes.
Vanessa shook her head quickly. “No, that’s not—he was confused. I was confused. We were just—”
“Everything can be clarified in the official record,” I said.
My voice held no anger. That made it worse.
Anger could be dismissed. Hysteria could be mocked. But accuracy was a blade they could not twist away from themselves.
Dr. Patel began issuing orders. The team moved around Marcus with practiced speed.
