Chapter 7: The Protector Wakes
The final video was the worst.
Renata stood before a mirror, practicing tears. She tilted her face, softened her voice, and repeated a story about me with chilling patience, adjusting each pause until it sounded convincing.
Then she smiled at her own reflection.
Not a nervous smile.
A satisfied one.
The realization hit me with the force of a physical blow. I had been living inside a trap built from whispers, staged fear, and a child’s forced silence.
But now the trap had a flaw.
Sofia had trusted me.
I copied the files, secured the drive, and called the one person I knew would answer before asking questions: my brother. Then I contacted an attorney and documented everything exactly as instructed.
No rage.
No confrontation.
