Kelly Clarkson Returns to TV for The Kelly Clarkson Show Season 7 Premiere
After a difficult few months, Kelly Clarkson made her return to television on Monday, September 29, for the Season 7 premiere of The Kelly Clarkson Show. The episode marked her first public appearance since the death of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, who passed away on August 7 after a battle with melanoma.
A Quiet but Poised Return
In the weeks following Blackstock’s death, Clarkson kept a low profile, stepping away from the spotlight. She briefly resurfaced in early September to mark the 23rd anniversary of her American Idol win, but Monday’s premiere was her first time back on camera.
Despite the emotional weight of recent events, Clarkson chose not to directly address her loss. Instead, she maintained the show’s usual upbeat tone, opening the episode with humor, warmth, and her signature charisma.
A Kellyoke Performance With Meaning
For her opening Kellyoke segment, Clarkson performed “Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd, explaining that the song’s energy and optimism matched the spirit she wanted to bring into the new season.
“Light has been a constant theme for us on this show from the beginning,” Clarkson told her studio audience. “We’ve seen a lot in the last six years, and sometimes the world can be very heavy. But my favorite part of this job is finding the light — and shining it on people who are making the world a better place.”
Heartfelt Guests and Real-Life Heroes
Following her performance, Clarkson welcomed Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell, stars of A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, as her first celebrity guests of the season. Later, she spotlighted a group of bus drivers from Texas who made national headlines for rescuing people from the devastating July 2025 floods — a story that perfectly fit her message of hope and resilience.
A Poised and Purposeful Comeback
Though Clarkson refrained from discussing her personal pain, her presence itself carried emotional weight — a sign of strength, professionalism, and perseverance. Her return reminded viewers that even amid hardship, she continues to lead with light, kindness, and authenticity, setting the tone for what promises to be another heartfelt and inspiring season.
