Terri Irwin Shares Heartwarming Throwback of Bindi and Baby Robert
As Robert Irwin continues to dazzle on Dancing With the Stars, his mom Terri Irwin gave fans a special treat — a rare home video showing 5-year-old Bindi meeting her newborn brother Robert for the first time. The footage, filmed nearly 22 years ago, captures the late Steve Irwin’s infectious joy and the family’s signature warmth that made them beloved around the world.
A Precious Family Moment
In the clip, a beaming Steve introduces baby Robert to little Bindi, who cradles her new brother and adorably asks, “I couldn’t help hoping that maybe he was really a girl… how do you know it’s a boy? Did you check?” Then, with innocent curiosity, she adds, “How long are you going to sleep for?”
The funniest moment comes when Bindi proudly declares, “I’ll call him Brian.” Steve gently corrects her: “His name’s Robert.” Without hesitation, she replies, “But I’ll call him Brian for short,” sending her parents into laughter.
Later in the video, Steve holds Robert and reflects on fatherhood with emotion:
“It’s like the whole reason you’ve been put on earth — it’s to do this.”
The footage captures everything fans loved about the Irwins — their humor, sincerity, and boundless love.
Fans React With Nostalgia and Love
After Terri posted the clip, followers flooded the comments with laughter and tears. One fan wrote, “Steve’s face when Bindi says she’s gonna call him Brian 😂.” Another added, “You think Steve was passionate about wildlife until you see him with his family.”
Many admitted they rewatched the clip repeatedly, while others praised Terri’s parenting. One fan wrote, “You’ve raised them right, Terri. Steve must be smiling down on you all.”
Even Bindi joined in, commenting, “Love you so much BRIAN!!!”
From “Brian” to the Ballroom
Today, “Brian” — a.k.a. Robert Irwin — is wowing audiences on Dancing With the Stars, partnered with Witney Carson. He recently earned top marks during the show’s Halloween episode, proving his natural charm extends far beyond the world of wildlife conservation.
Bindi, who won DWTS in 2015 with Derek Hough, has been cheering him on alongside her husband Chandler Powell and their daughter Grace. The whole family even relocated to California temporarily to support Robert through the competition.
Terri’s heartfelt post reminds fans that while Steve Irwin’s legacy lives on through wildlife conservation, his greatest legacy might be the laughter, love, and light he instilled in his family — something this adorable “Brian” moment captures perfectly.
