Riley Green set the tone for an emotional night with a stripped-back acoustic performance, seated alone on a stage designed to look like an oversized whiskey barrel. Surrounded by the soft flicker of candlelight and illuminated by a single spotlight, the Alabama native delivered the opening verse and chorus of his heartfelt breakup ballad with quiet intensity.
Plucking gently at his guitar, Green sang:
“I’ve been doin’ better, I hardly ever think of you lately / It ain’t all sunshine / When you cross my mind, I start missin’ you like crazy…”
“I try to numb the pain, but there ain’t no damn way / I end up in that place and I’m just one whiskey away…”
As the last line echoed, Ella Langley made her entrance, harmonizing beautifully with Green’s rugged southern vocals. Taking a seat beside him, she delivered the final chorus, offering a poignant female response to the song’s aching narrative:
“Well, I don’t mind if you do / Drink a little too much and show up at my house / Be nice to hear the truth / Is it killin’ you not holdin’ me right now?”
“If fallin’ into me is the only thing you think is gonna get you through / Then I don’t mind if you do.”
The duet drew warm applause and cheers from the live audience, who were clearly moved by the emotional connection and chemistry between the two artists.
Green later reflected on how the collaboration came together. Originally, Langley had simply stopped by the studio in a sweatsuit to record a placeholder vocal for the female part:
“I just called her to throw a vocal on it so I could pitch it… and she crushed it,” he recalled. “I couldn’t imagine anyone doing it better.”
He added how natural the partnership has been:
“It was really cool to have her on the song, especially with the momentum from our other track—it kind of worked out perfectly.”
That other track, of course, is their chart-topping duet “You Look Like You Love Me,” which recently hit No. 1 on U.S. country radio and topped charts globally in Canada, the UK, and Australia. The success of the song also earned them their first CMA Award for Musical Event of the Year last month.
Their performance of “Don’t Mind If I Do” on The Voice marked another powerful moment in what’s becoming a standout musical partnership. Fans won’t have to wait long to see them again—the duo will hit the road together next year on Green’s headlining Damn Country Music Tour.
