The identify of the 16-year-old student who was murdered at Antioch High School on January 22, 2025, has been made public by the Metro Nashville Police Department.
The victim, identified as Josselin Corea Escalante, was hurt at her school’s cafeteria. She was shot along with two other students. One of the two students sustained a graze, for which Vanderbilt University Medical Center provided prompt medical attention.
German Corea, the father of the deceased student, was naturally crushed by the loss. “I told her how much I loved her every day,” he said. Josselin excelled academically and played soccer. Her father, Corea, expressed his disappointment that his daughter will never return home from school, saying, “It’s not fair.”
The loss shocks Escalante’s aunt. She described how her niece’s life was tragically cut short despite attending school in hopes of gaining knowledge and a better life. “Oh my God. My girl was her. She was a really well-behaved and serene girl. She did well academically. She claimed to be a girl who cherished her parents and her entire family.
Now, Josselin Corea Escalante is asking the school to strengthen its security. Since most school shootings have a similar plot, they don’t think much will change. On the evening of Escalante’s murder, Antioch High School observed a vigil in her honor.
A 17-year-old kid at the school was the shooter. He injured himself by shooting himself in the head, and the wounds caused his death. Solomon Henderson was his given name. When Henderson started firing, Antioch High School’s two on-duty school resource officers were in a different area of the facility.
They hurried to the cafeteria as soon as they heard the gunshots, arriving just a short time after Henderson had committed suicide. Henderson’s social media and internet activities is currently being investigated by authorities.
To ascertain the reason behind the shooting, they are also collaborating with state, federal, and municipal authorities. The authorities have yet to establish a link between the shooter and his victims. “It’s possible that his sporadic gunfire in the cafeteria hit them,” the Metro Nashville Police Department stated.
“On behalf of this entire police department, I extend our deep condolences to Antioch High students, parents, and staff,” said Metro Nashville Police Department Chief John Drake in a statement. In the coming days and weeks, our officers and counselors will endeavor to contribute to the healing process.
The whole Antioch High School community, together with parents and students, received condolences from Dr. Adrienne Battle, the director of Metro Nashville Public Schools. She said that in order to give staff and students time to grieve, the school will be closed for the remainder of the week.
“I want to thank the Metro Nashville Police Department and Nashville Fire Department for their swift and urgent response, as well as the school staff who swiftly and heroically followed emergency protocols, potentially preventing further harm,” she said in a statement.
