Marla Gibbs, renowned for her role on The Jeffersons, made a remarkable appearance at the 2024 Emmy Awards, marking her return to the red carpet. The 92-year-old actress, known for her role as Florence Johnston, graced the event in a stunning black dress adorned with sparkles and white jewel embellishments along the edges. With her short hair styled elegantly, Gibbs presented the Award for Supporting Actress in a Limited Anthology Series or Movie alongside Abbott Elementary writer and actor Quinta Brunson.

As Gibbs took the stage, the audience erupted in cheers, recognizing the living legend. Quinta Brunson, visibly excited, highlighted Gibbs’s illustrious career spanning decades and her continued activity in the industry, surpassing those much younger than her in terms of busyness. The crowd’s enthusiasm for Gibbs was palpable, and Brunson expressed her joy at having the opportunity to present an award alongside the Hollywood legend.

During the presentation, Gibbs humorously addressed the wage gap, joking that she would need to work “20 more years” before considering retirement. She playfully suggested that Brunson could write a role for her on Abbott Elementary, adding a quip about “Black don’t crack.”

Despite her busy schedule, Gibbs remains actively involved in the industry, making appearances in films and television shows. In 2022, she featured in projects like Bromates, Spirit Halloween: The Movie, and Grey’s Anatomy. In the previous year, she appeared in A Snowy Day in Oakland, The Ms. Pat Show, and History of the World: Part II. The crowd’s exuberant reception at the Emmy Awards attested to Gibbs’s enduring popularity and her timeless presence in the entertainment industry.
