Lainey Wilson’s Whirlwind Tour Ends With Ernest’s Hilarious Onstage Prank

Lainey Wilson closed out her Whirlwind Tour this weekend in unforgettable fashion — thanks to her tourmate Ernest, who decided the best way to say goodbye was with a laugh.

During the final show, Ernest joined Lainey onstage to perform their duet “Would If I Could.” But instead of his usual look, he strutted out dressed head-to-toe as Lainey Wilson — complete with a cowboy hat, bell bottoms, and a curly blonde wig.

“You Better Start Doing Them Squats…”

When Lainey saw him, she couldn’t stop laughing — or teasing him.

“You better start doing them squats… Ernest, I cannot believe you’re doing this right now,” she joked. “Dude, if my pants don’t go back to the normal size, I’m gonna be mad as hell.”

Ernest laughed and admitted he might’ve gotten a little too comfortable in her clothes:

“I definitely owe you a pair of pants… I feel better than I thought I would — this is me in my peak form.”

    Ernest’s “Lainey Look” Goes Viral

After the show, Ernest shared a few photos of his transformation on Instagram, thanking Lainey and her crew for the tour:

“Wrapped up this tour with Lainey Wilson last night. I don’t know what it’s like to walk a mile in her shoes, but I DO know what it’s like to walk to stage in her pants. Thank you Lainey for being so good to us and sharing ur fans with us. Hope to see y’all soon!”

The post quickly went viral, with fans applauding his sense of humor — and his surprisingly convincing Lainey-inspired outfit.

The Story Behind “Would If I Could”

Throughout the tour, Wilson and Ernest have performed “Would If I Could,” their heartfelt duet included on Ernest’s 2024 album Nashville, Tennessee.

The song itself has a fascinating history — it was written nearly 30 years ago, in 1996, by legendary country songwriters Dean Dillon and Skip Ewing during their only writing session together. Despite its timeless beauty, the song sat unreleased for decades until Ernest discovered it and decided to record it.

Initially, Ernest released a solo version to radio, but when Lainey joined in for the duet, fans instantly agreed that the chemistry and emotion between them made it definitive.

Dean Dillon himself once told Lost & Found Radio with Lori McKenna that he’d always believed the song was special — it just needed the right artists to bring it to life.

A Perfect Ending to a Wild Ride

Between the laughter, heartfelt music, and onstage camaraderie, Lainey Wilson’s Whirlwind Tour couldn’t have ended on a better note. And thanks to Ernest’s hilarious “Lainey impersonation,” fans got one final reminder that even amid the glamour of country stardom, the best moments are often the ones filled with joy, friendship, and a little bit of mischief.
