On September 27, at the Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre, Selena’s longtime boyfriend Trenton Lee pulled off a surprise she’ll never forget — a marriage proposal in front of hundreds of cheering fans and one of country music’s biggest stars.
The Proposal That Stole the Show
Mid-concert, Trenton led Selena onto the stage. As the crowd erupted in anticipation, he dropped to one knee.
While his words weren’t caught on video, the reaction said it all — Selena gasped in shock, then melted into an embrace. With tears and laughter mixing on stage, she turned to the crowd and confirmed her answer: “Yes.”
Moments later, Tim McGraw himself joined the celebration, greeting the couple with a high-five for Trenton and warm hugs for both. The three posed for photos together as Selena proudly displayed her new engagement ring.
A Ring With a Deeper Story
What made the proposal even more emotional was the meaning behind Selena’s ring.
Earlier this year, Selena’s mother, Mary, passed away from cancer. When she was cremated, a portion of her ashes was placed into a special ring Selena wore daily to keep her mom close.
For the proposal, Trenton carefully planned a way to include Mary in the moment. Before the show, he convinced Selena to hand him the ring so he could “keep it safe.” When he got on stage, he presented it back to her — this time as her engagement ring.
“I had Momma Mary’s help,” Trenton later explained in a TikTok post. “She was part of this proposal too.”
He also shared that Selena will later choose a new ring of her liking, but this moment — with her mother’s ashes close by — was exactly as he envisioned.
