Megan Moroney Joins Kenny Chesney for a Stunning Duet of “You and Tequila” in Chicago
Megan Moroney has become a standout part of Kenny Chesney’s Sun Goes Down Tour, not only opening each show but also taking the stage alongside Chesney for a powerful duet. During the tour stop at Soldier Field in Chicago on June 15, the pair wowed the crowd with a moving rendition of “You and Tequila.”
Originally released over a decade ago, Chesney’s GRAMMY-nominated hit features Grace Potter and remains a staple in his live shows. On this tour, Moroney takes over Potter’s part, adding her own flavor to the emotional ballad. The chemistry between the two artists was undeniable as they delivered heartfelt harmonies, capturing the song’s message of love’s intoxicating highs and lows.
Moroney brought a bold presence in black cutoffs and a rhinestone mesh crop top, while Chesney kept it classic with jeans, a tank top in his signature coastal colors, and his iconic cowboy beach hat.
Together, they sang:
“’Cause you and Tequila make me crazy / Run like poison in my blood / One more night could kill me, baby / One is one too many, one more is never enough.”
From Nosebleeds to Center Stage
Reflecting on the tour, Moroney shared a full-circle moment during an interview with Angie Ward of 94.9 The Bull. She recalled attending Chesney’s 2018 show at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium as a fan sitting in the nosebleeds—and now, just years later, she’s sharing the stage with him.
“Old Dominion and Thomas Rhett opened for him, and I was the drunk girl in the nosebleeds,” she laughed. “If you’re gonna be the drunk girl in the nosebleeds tonight, don’t give up.”
Learning From a Legend
Beyond the performances, Moroney is soaking in every detail of life on tour with Chesney. She’s closely observing his stagecraft, timing, and show transitions, hoping to grow as a performer by learning from the best.
“When I’m watching him, I’m paying attention to scene changes, lighting cues, what he’s doing when the lights go out… just being able to watch him work—it’s all clicking,” she said.
On the Road Through Summer
The Sun Goes Down Tour continues on July 6 in Kansas City, MO, with plenty of dates remaining before it wraps up August 25. Alongside Moroney, the tour also features Uncle Kracker and the Zac Brown Band—offering fans an unforgettable lineup of country talent on every stop.
