Breanna Nix Stuns Carrie Underwood and Judges with Adele’s ‘Water Under The Bridge’ During Ladies Night on American Idol
Breanna Nix Shines Bright with Adele’s “Water Under the Bridge” on American Idol’s Ladies Night
May 4, 2025 – American Idol Season 23 is heating up, and Breanna Nix is making it clear that she’s not just surviving—she’s thriving. On Sunday night’s Ladies Night episode, the Top 10 contestants paid tribute to iconic female artists, and while the competition was fierce, it was Nix who delivered one of the most unforgettable performances of the evening.
A Star in a Gold Dress
Wearing a breathtaking floor-length gold gown, Nix tackled Adele’s “Water Under the Bridge”—a vocally demanding hit from 2015 that requires both precision and power. Under the mentorship of Miranda Lambert, who coached her on how to sing with sass, Nix brought the song to life with renewed fire and flair.
The crowd was on its feet, and so were the judges.
Carrie Underwood: “This was the right song choice for sure. A perfect moment for you.”
Luke Bryan: “It was like an Adele vibes moment. Perfectly well done.”
Lionel Richie: “You turned it into your song. You know how to get to a note and choke it to death!”
From Stay-at-Home Mom to Frontrunner
Watching Breanna week after week has been a journey in growth and confidence. From her humble beginnings as a self-described “just a stay-at-home mom”, to now commanding the stage like a seasoned pro, her evolution has been one of the season’s most inspiring arcs.
This wasn’t just a performance—it was a statement: she belongs.
Did She Make the Top 8?
Absolutely. Breanna Nix was the very first contestant announced as safe, proving once again that America—and the judges—are fully behind her.
Joining her in the Top 8: Mattie Pruitt, Jamar Roberts, John Foster, Josh King, Gabby Simone, Slater Nalley, and Thunderstorm Artis. Unfortunately, Kolbi Jordan and Canaan James Hill were eliminated, marking the end of the road for the last Platinum Ticket holders.
What’s Next?
The competition continues Monday night (May 5) with Judges’ Choice, where the Top 8 will sing from a list of songs selected by the judges. If Breanna keeps this momentum, she may be unstoppable.
Watch her soaring rendition of “Water Under the Bridge” below—and see why she’s one of Season 23’s frontrunners.
