    • “Father, I still hear your laughter in the wind, and I still see you in the softest of lights…” – from the darkness of loss, Craig Morgan sang like a call echoing through time. After “the SUDDEN death of his son Jerry” – he did not seek the noise of the stage but returned to faith, and from the deepest place in his broken heart, “The Father, My Son, and the Holy Ghost” was born. The first time Craig performed the song at the Grand Ole Opry, the whole audience fell silent and then burst into tears, including Ricky Skaggs – who came to hug him and said: “You must sing again, because THE WORLD NEEDS TO HEAR this.” And the most touching moment was when Blake Shelton – Craig’s “close friend” – suddenly walked to the center of the stage, holding Craig’s hand in silence. A scene that made the country people EXPLODE.

John Foster Stuns with George Strait’s “I Cross My Heart” on American Idol’s Judges’ Song Contest

Country standout John Foster took another major step toward American Idol stardom Monday night with a heartfelt and flawless rendition of George Strait’s “I Cross My Heart”—a performance that left both judges and fans swooning.

    From Underdog to Fan Favorite
Just six weeks ago, John Foster was a soft-spoken 18-year-old from Louisiana with dreams of becoming a singing oncologist. His Idol journey began with a solid cover of Alan Jackson’s “Don’t Rock the Jukebox,” but it wasn’t quite enough to convince the judges—at first.

It took a second song, Conway Twitty’s “Goodbye Time,” and some serious heart to finally earn him a Golden Ticket. Even then, Luke Bryan wasn’t sold on how far John would go, admitting,

“I don’t know if vocally it’s there to make it through many, many rounds of American Idol.”

Fast-forward to now, and Foster is proving to be one of the most consistent and compelling vocalists in the competition—winning over audiences with his vintage country sound and steady, humble charm.

A Love Song, For Real This Time
For Judges’ Song Contest night, John had to choose one of three anonymous song picks from the judges. He landed on George Strait’s romantic classic “I Cross My Heart”, a song selected by Carrie Underwood, who believed it would highlight John’s rich baritone and authentic country roots.

Before taking the stage, John admitted he’d never sung a love song that actually meant something to him. That changed Monday night—with his girlfriend watching proudly in the audience, Foster delivered a performance full of sincerity and emotional weight.

    Carrie Underwood was thrilled:
“That was absolutely perfect. It felt comfortable, it felt genuine… one of your best performances, John.”

Luke Bryan even owned up to misjudging him:
“No one has ever proved me more wrong than you, and I’m so proud.”

    What’s Next for Foster?
With each round, John Foster continues to cement his place as one of this season’s breakout stars—especially for fans of traditional country. Whether or not he wins the title, his Idol journey is already a masterclass in quiet resilience and staying true to your roots.

Watch his moving cover of “I Cross My Heart” below and see why America keeps voting him through.
