My Ex-Husband’s Fiancée Was the Last Person I Ever Expected
Aaron and I had drifted apart over the years, but we stayed polite for the sake of our son, David.
That evening, when Aaron came by to drop David off, my son was practically bursting with excitement. He went on and on about roller coasters and cotton candy, barely stopping to catch his breath.
But Aaron? He looked off.
He stood there, stiff and unreadable—his usual relaxed smile was nowhere to be found.
I could tell something was wrong.
“I’m getting married again.”
We sat in the kitchen, and I poured us both a cup of coffee. He clearly had something big to share.
Then he sighed and said it.
“I’m getting married again.”
I froze for a moment. Then I smiled.
We were done. We had been for a long time. I truly wanted him to be happy.
“That’s great, Aaron,” I said sincerely. “Who’s the lucky woman?”
He paused. “I actually have a picture… here.”
He handed me his phone.
And the moment I saw the photo, my heart sank.
No. Not her. Anyone but her.
My hands started to shake as I stared at the screen.
There she was—wavy blonde hair, radiant smile, her hand resting firmly on Aaron’s chest.
I knew that face.
All too well.
My chest tightened, heart pounding.
Samantha.
My best friend from childhood.
The same Samantha who had stabbed me in the back years ago.
She’d slept with my high school boyfriend.
Spread lies about me just to move up in our social circle.
She once looked me in the eye and said, “It’s not my fault men prefer me over you.”
And now, she was engaged to my ex-husband.
Aaron noticed my reaction.
“You okay?” he asked, clearly concerned.
I put on the calmest face I could manage. “Yeah… just surprised.”
“You know her?”
I took a breath. “Yeah. We used to be… close.”
That was all I said.
Because deep down, I knew exactly who Samantha still was.
Manipulative. Self-serving. Dangerous.
And now she was going to be a stepmother to my son.
This wasn’t the end of it.
I had to understand what she was really doing here.
Because Samantha never did anything without a motive.
And if she was with Aaron now, there was a reason.
And I was going to find out what it was.
