The 2023 Oscars ceremony was filled with unforgettable moments and celebrated performances, notably with “Everything Everywhere All At Once” dominating the awards. Individual successes included wins for Brendan Fraser, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michelle Yeoh, and Ke Huy Quan. Amid the glamour and applause, a poignant moment involving Morgan Freeman might have gone unnoticed by many. However, eagle-eyed fans on social media were quick to highlight it.

Freeman took the stage alongside actress Margot Robbie to commemorate 100 years of Warner Brothers. He did so while wearing a black glove on his left hand, which sparked curiosity and concern among viewers. The reason for this specific wardrobe choice is profoundly personal and rather heartbreaking.

Morgan Freeman, an iconic and recognizable actor of his generation, has been wearing this glove since 2008 due to a severe car accident in Mississippi. That night, Freeman’s car veered off the road, flipped multiple times, and landed in a ditch. Paramedics arrived quickly but had to use hydraulic cutters to free him from the vehicle. Despite the seriousness of the situation, Freeman remained conscious and even joked with his rescuers.

The then-71-year-old actor sustained significant injuries, including multiple broken bones, and was flown over 100 miles to a hospital in Memphis. Freeman underwent a four-hour surgery to reset his left arm. Unfortunately, the accident left him with permanent nerve damage and chronic pain in his shoulder. Since then, he has had to wear a compression glove to manage swelling and maintain some level of mobility in his hand.

In a 2010 interview with People magazine, Freeman revealed that he had never fully recovered from the injury.

“If you don’t move your hand, it will swell up,” the “Shawshank Redemption” star explained. “Do you know you move your hand about a million times a day?”

This revelation sheds light on Freeman’s resilience and determination to continue his career despite enduring constant pain. His story is a testament to his strength and dedication, attributes that have endeared him to fans worldwide.

Freeman’s fans, moved by this revelation, expressed their admiration and support on social media. Many shared their thoughts on how his voice and performances have positively impacted their lives.

“I didn’t even know about Morgan Freeman’s terrible car accident, let alone the injury he continues to live with to this day!”

    one fan commented.
Freeman’s enduring legacy and powerful performances continue to inspire many, proving that his contributions to the film industry remain invaluable.
