Madonna Hospitalized in New York City Due to Serious Bacterial Infection
Page Six has exclusively revealed that Madonna, the 64-year-old pop icon, has been rushed to a New York City hospital after being found unresponsive. She was discovered at a residence on Saturday and subsequently admitted to the ICU, where she remained intubated overnight.
“Madonna has developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several-day stay in the ICU,” shared her longtime manager, Guy Oseary, on Instagram.
Madonna has now been transferred out of the intensive care unit and is currently recovering in a regular ward of the undisclosed hospital. Throughout her ordeal, her oldest daughter, Lordes Leon, 26, has reportedly been by her side.
The specific details regarding the type of bacterial infection Madonna contracted are currently unknown. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, serious bacterial infections claim the lives of over 23,000 Americans each year.
Postponement of “Celebration” Tour
Madonna was scheduled to commence her highly-anticipated “Celebration” tour in less than three weeks; however, due to her health crisis, the shows have been postponed. The tour was set to encompass 53 shows across North America and Europe, beginning in Vancouver on July 15.
“At this time, we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour,” stated Oseary. “We will share more details with you as soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows.”
The Grammy-winning artist had promised to perform her greatest hits spanning from her 1983 self-titled debut album to her most recent record, 2019’s “Madame X.” Just three days before her hospitalization, Madonna had taken to social media to celebrate her twin daughters’ graduation from elementary school.
A Family-Oriented Mother
In May, Madonna spent Mother’s Day in New York City with all six of her children, including Lourdes, Stelle, Estere, Rocco, David Banda, and Mercy. The details of Madonna’s current relationship status remain unclear; however, sources previously suggested a close connection between Madonna and 29-year-old singer Maluma during rehearsals for her tour.
Madonna’s tour schedule has been demanding, with plans for 84 shows within a six-and-a-half month timeframe. It is worth noting that she canceled 18 dates on her last tour, “Madame X,” from September 17, 2019, to March 8, 2020. While two of those cancellations were due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the others were a result of injuries.
“As I climbed the ladder to sing ‘Batuka’ on Saturday night in Miami, I was in tears from the pain of my injuries, which has been indescribable for the past few days. With every song I sang, I said a prayer that I would make it to the next and get through the show. My prayers were answered, and I made it,” Madonna shared on Instagram on December 24, 2019.
As Madonna continues her recovery, fans eagerly await further updates regarding her health and the rescheduling of her “Celebration” tour. We hope for her swift and complete recovery.
