LPG Tanker Explosion in Mexico City Prompts Investigation and Safety Review
A serious traffic accident on the Iztapalapa–Chalco highway led to a large explosion after a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanker overturned during the morning commute.
According to officials, the tanker was carrying more than 13,000 gallons of LPG when the collision occurred. The vehicle later caught fire, with the flames spreading to nearby cars and motorcycles.
Authorities reported that at least 15 people lost their lives and more than 70 others were injured. Many of those hurt required treatment for burns and smoke inhalation, placing significant demands on hospitals serving the eastern part of Mexico City.
