Ashley McBryde Is Entering Her Next Era — And Her Redemption Residency Is Already Legendary

It’s a great moment to be an Ashley McBryde fan.

At the end of December, the One Night Standards singer shared an emotional Instagram video that caught fans’ attention immediately. Sitting in her car after listening to rough mixes of her upcoming album, McBryde admitted she was overwhelmed—despite having written and lived with these songs from the very beginning.

Even unfinished, the music hit her like it was brand new.

She described staring at the dashboard in disbelief, saying it felt like she was hearing both the record and the artist for the first time. It wasn’t nostalgia or distance that made it emotional—it was the realization that the work had taken on a life of its own.

That vulnerability officially turned into momentum this week.

    A Fan Favorite, Reborn

After teasing it earlier this month, McBryde has now launched her new musical chapter with a re-recorded version of “What If We Don’t,” a fan-favorite originally released on her 2016 independent EP Jalopies & Expensive Guitars. The updated version feels like a bridge between where she started and where she’s headed—familiar, but sharpened by years of growth.

    And that’s not all.

    Redemption Comes to Broadway

Last night, McBryde kicked off her eight-show Redemption Residency at Chief’s, the Nashville hotspot owned by Eric Church. The residency is split into three distinct concepts:

Just Me and My Shadow – stripped-down acoustic performances with storytelling

Postcards from Lindeville – a full dive into her 2022 concept album

Mixtape from the Mixed Up Years – the songs that inspired her to make music

The opening night featured the Just Me and My Shadow set—and it delivered.

Alongside deep cuts like Luckiest S.O.B., Redemption, and What If We Don’t, McBryde threw in a handful of unforgettable covers, including Garth Brooks’ Papa Loved Mama and Johnny Cash’s I’ve Been Everywhere.

Turning a Nightmare Song Into Comedy Gold

Before launching into I’ve Been Everywhere, McBryde shared a story that had the crowd laughing before she ever sang a note.

She recalled being offered $20 by a fan to perform their favorite Johnny Cash song—assuming (and hoping) it would be something manageable like Folsom Prison Blues. Instead, the request was I’ve Been Everywhere, one of the most memorization-heavy songs in country music history.

With only a couple of hours to prepare, she learned just enough to survive—and then made the rest up.

After flawlessly nailing the opening verse (which includes 23 cities), McBryde admitted she ran out of time and creativity, so she improvised:

She rewrote verses into rapid-fire lists of beers, then cocktails—rattling off everything from Coors and Shiner Bock to Bloody Marys and margaritas, even sneaking in a brutally honest “b*tch water” along the way.

@kimberlybryant101 Tonight may have been one of the BEST concerts I have ever been to!!! It was real, raw and intimate…nothing but a guitar and some of the best vocals you will ever hear! And she played my favorite @Johnny Cash song…Ashley-style! @Ashley McBryde #fyp #ashleymcbryde #johnnycash #livemusic #countrymusic ♬ original sound – kimbryant0525

    Somehow, it worked. Perfectly.

It was chaotic, hilarious, and wildly impressive—the kind of moment you can’t script and fans won’t forget.

    This Is Just the Beginning

If this opening night is any indication, McBryde’s Redemption Residency is shaping up to be one of the most entertaining, personal runs on Broadway this year.

    Redemption Residency Dates

January 22 & 23 – Just Me and My Shadow

    February 19 & 20 – Postcards from Lindeville

March 19 & 20 – Just Me and My Shadow

April 17 & 18 – Mixtape from the Mixed Up Years

Ashley McBryde isn’t just releasing new music—she’s reminding everyone why her storytelling, humor, and honesty hit harder than most.

And if this is the sound of a new era beginning, it’s already off to one hell of a start.

Previous Article“NO ONE EXPECTED THIS — AND FOR 3 MINUTES, THE MALL FORGOT HOW TO BREATHE.” An ordinary afternoon at Ayala Malls Market! Market! suddenly turned unreal when Calum Scott casually stepped up and began singing “You Are The Reason.” No stage. No warning. Just that unmistakable voice cutting through the noise — and everything else stopped. Conversations faded. Shoppers froze mid-step. Phones shot into the air as people realized this wasn’t a recording… this was him. As the song built, you could feel the emotion ripple through the crowd — strangers standing shoulder to shoulder, some smiling, some wiping their eyes. And when the final note landed, the mall didn’t erupt right away… it exhaled, then burst into applause. A random day became a once-in-a-lifetime memory — the kind people will swear they were there for.
