While Calum Scott continues his globe-spanning world tour, fans at his Cape Town show were treated to a moment no one saw coming—thanks to a very small, very unexpected guest.
The 37-year-old singer was standing at the mic, gearing up to sing one of his biggest hits, when a shout from the crowd stopped him in his tracks. After realizing what a fan was trying to point out, the former Britain’s Got Talent star quickly backed away, joking that the uninvited visitor had somehow scored “VIP access” to the concert—a moment later shared widely on TikTok.
“There’s a praying mantis on your mic!” a young woman yelled, prompting Scott to repeat the sentence in disbelief: “There’s a praying mantis on my mic?”
When she added that it seemed to be trying to be his friend, Scott couldn’t help but ask the obvious question: “Are these guys poisonous?”
The crowd quickly reassured him with a loud “no,” as the fan chimed in, explaining that praying mantises are considered a symbol of good luck.
“He’s vibing—I don’t know if you can see this,” Scott joked, swaying back and forth to imitate the insect’s movements on the microphone stand.
When the fan repeated that it was a good-luck sign, Scott laughed and replied, “It’s a sign of good luck? Well, thank you so much, little man.”
He then stepped away from the mic, thanking the fan for pointing it out, before asking if she wanted to take the mantis with her. She happily agreed, gently holding the tiny creature as Scott cracked one last joke: “He’ll definitely be sending me an invoice for appearing in my show.”
The viral clip sparked plenty of discussion online. While a few commenters poked fun at the fan’s excitement, many more jumped in to defend her enthusiasm.
“How can anyone judge someone who finds joy in the smallest things? We need more people like that,” one supporter wrote.
Another joked that she seemed more excited about the mantis than seeing Calum Scott himself.
“May she always stay this happy and bright,” another added.
One TikTok user summed up the general sentiment perfectly: “We love her. Hope she never loses that spirit—the world will try to dim it, but she’s shining.”
Sometimes, even a world tour can pause for a moment of pure, unexpected joy.
