Zach Top strips it back with a garage acoustic performance of “When You See Me”

For most people, the garage is where tools live and weekend projects come to life. For Zach Top, it’s also become a no-frills performance space.

While he probably keeps his guitars stored somewhere more climate-friendly, that hasn’t stopped him from turning the garage into a familiar spot for sharing music. On January 21, Zach posted his first garage acoustic video of the year, captioning it, “Back to your regularly scheduled garage acoustics.”

This time around, he chose When You See Me, the third track from his third studio album, Ain’t In It For My Health, released in 2025.

    A Song About Letting Go

“When You See Me” centers on moving forward after heartbreak, and the stripped-down setting fits the theme perfectly. In the video, Zach jumps in midway through the song, singing about fresh starts—buying a new truck, leaving old memories behind, and heading somewhere unfamiliar with the confidence that everything will eventually be okay.

When he reaches the chorus, the message is clear: the person he’s becoming won’t look anything like who he was before.

The timing of the post is notable, too. With the Grammy Awards just over a week away on February 1, Zach is heading into a big moment in his career. Ain’t In It For My Health is nominated for the inaugural Best Traditional Country Album Grammy.

He’s up against a strong field, including projects from Charley Crockett, Lukas Nelson, Willie Nelson, and Margo Price.

    Fans—and Fellow Artists—Take Notice

The garage performance didn’t go unnoticed. Josh Abbott Band jumped into the comments with a gif that said it all, while Morgan Evans responded with multiple fire emojis.

Zach previously shared an earlier portion of the song back in October, but this latest clip gives fans a fuller picture of how the track shines in its simplest form.

On the album, “When You See Me” has a much bigger sonic footprint, featuring electric guitars, percussion, and even piano. The garage version, by contrast, trades polish for intimacy—two very different moods built from the same song.

Fans can check out both versions and hear Zach Top’s third album, Ain’t In It For My Health, on their preferred streaming platform.
