Yellowstone Star Luke Grimes Gets Candid About Fatherhood And the Reality Behind the Smiles

Kelly WhitewoodBy Kelly WhitewoodJanuary 18, 20263 Mins Read

In October 2024, Luke Grimes and his wife, Bianca Rodrigues Grimes, quietly welcomed their first child, a baby boy. Since then, the couple has kept family life largely out of the spotlight—but during a recent red carpet appearance, Grimes offered a rare and heartfelt glimpse into his first year as a father.

“He’s not great at sleeping,” Grimes admitted with a smile, “but he’s great at everything else. He’s the best.” The Yellowstone star added that fatherhood has been a crash course in growth. “I’m learning so much right now about the world and about myself and about him and about babies. There’s a lot to learn.”

Asked what makes his son laugh the most—or what makes him laugh—Grimes didn’t hesitate. “He’s just a goofball,” he said. “I don’t know where he gets some of the stuff he comes up with. Maybe me, because I’m also a goofball.”

    A New Chapter Onscreen: Marshals

Professionally, Grimes is entering a new phase as well. He’ll soon reprise his Yellowstone character in the upcoming spin-off Marshals, which centers on Kayce Dutton after the end of the flagship series.

The show follows Kayce as he leaves the weight of the Dutton legacy behind and joins an elite team of U.S. Marshals in Montana—searching for purpose after profound loss. In the newly released extended trailer, Kayce reflects on everything he’s endured:

“I fought every day to get out of the weight of Yellowstone… I’ve lost my teammates, my parents, even my brothers. I know that sometimes good men have to do bad things. But I’m trying to find a new beginning.”

Grimes has confirmed that familiar faces from Yellowstone will appear, and the series will introduce new characters as well, including Pete Calvin—played by Logan Marshall-Green—a close friend from Kayce’s military past. Kayce’s son Tate, portrayed by Brecken Merrill, also returns in a more grown-up role.

    Balancing Real Life and Reinvention

Between sleepless nights at home and a character searching for redemption on screen, Luke Grimes finds himself navigating parallel transformations—one deeply personal, the other fictional but familiar to longtime fans. If Marshals is about starting over, Grimes seems to be living that theme in real time, learning as he goes and embracing the chaos with humor, humility, and heart.

Having previously declared no cancerous cells detectable, Teddi now faces a harsher reality: the tumor has metastasized to her brain, and the pain is undeniable. At 74, Mellencamp couldn’t hide his helplessness as he said his daughter was enduring every moment. The 50/50 chance of survival hangs over her like an unsolvable sentence. This is no longer a story of hope for victory over the disease, but a heartbreaking confession from a father facing the fear of losing his child.
