“I love that song. I love that movie. Oh, I love this season,” the Emmy-winning host told the audience with a smile, before revealing that the The Kelly Clarkson Show studio had been transformed to mirror her own holiday retreat in Montana.

“As you can see, we’re having our own White Christmas on the show right now,” Kelly Clarkson explained. “It’s inspired by my ranch in Montana, because that’s where I spend Christmas—because life is awesome. We’ve got a crackling fireplace, rustic chandeliers, and, of course, beautifully decorated, real Christmas trees.”

What to Know About “White Christmas”

Though “White Christmas” has been a staple of holiday playlists for generations, the song actually predates the famous film that later shared its name. Written by Irving Berlin, the song was first introduced in the 1942 musical film Holiday Inn, where it was famously performed by Bing Crosby.

The nostalgic tune, which paints a picture of a classic, snow-covered Christmas, went on to win the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 1943 Oscars.

In 1954, Crosby reprised the song as the star of the musical film White Christmas, cementing it as one of the most beloved holiday classics of all time. Since then, the song has been recorded by countless artists, including Michael Bublé, Gwen Stefani, Meghan Trainor, and Clarkson herself on her 2013 holiday album Wrapped in Red.
