Riley Green Admits He Wants Kids One Day But Says He Refuses To Build A “Basketball Team”

Riley Green may not be a dad yet, but he already has a pretty clear idea of what he doesn’t want when it comes to future family plans—and that includes a house full of kids.

During a recent interview with Rob + Holly, the 37-year-old country star talked about eventually having children, a conversation that came up after he mentioned his close friend and frequent collaborator Thomas Rhett.

Rhett and his wife, Lauren Akins, currently have four daughters, with another baby on the way. Naturally, the hosts asked Green if he envisioned a similar future. His response was immediate—and amused.

“I don’t know how they do it,” Green said with a laugh. “It’s crazy to me.”

While he’s open to having kids one day, Green made it clear he’s not trying to field a full roster. “I’ve got an interest in kids—just not 17 of them,” he joked. “I don’t want a basketball team. I’m just looking for a couple little kids to hang out with.”

Green then shared a story that really drove the point home. Last summer, Rhett called him while Green was at the beach and asked for help finding a boat so he could take a few of his daughters fishing. Green said he lined things up and followed up—only to hear nothing back.

About a week later, Rhett called again. “He says, ‘You don’t understand—I’ve got a lot of kids,’” Green recalled. “And I’m like, ‘I get that… but you asked me to find a boat.’”

The “Worst Way” singer also pointed to his sister Lindy’s experience as further confirmation that a big family isn’t for him. She has three kids and spends most of her time driving them from one sports event to another.

“They’re always going to ball games,” Green said. “They spend like 90% of their life in the car. I’ve got no interest in that.”

As for who he might one day start a family with, Green’s love life has become a hot topic among fans lately. When asked whether all the speculation bothers him, he admitted “frustrating” isn’t quite the right word—but he does find it odd.

“There’s been a strange interest in my personal life over the last year or so,” he said. “Without me saying much of anything, people come up with all these theories.”

Still, he takes it in stride—and even finds some humor in it.

“My buddies get entertained by it. My family gets entertained by it,” he said. “And honestly, if it leads people to my music, I guess that’s not a bad thing.”

For now, Riley Green seems perfectly content focusing on music, letting fans speculate, and keeping the idea of fatherhood firmly in the someday—but not with a minivan category.
