“TURN IT INTO THE BANK? THEY’LL PUNCH A HOLE IN IT!” – Carol Burnett’s Hilarious Counterfeit $20 Skit That Turns A Simple Bar Visit Into A Comedy Masterpiece

A Counterfeit $20 Bill Turns Into Comic Chaos on The Carol Burnett Show

Imagine settling into a quiet evening at a bar, minding your own business, when one tiny problem — a counterfeit $20 bill — turns everything upside down. The Carol Burnett Show delivered countless unforgettable comedy sketches over the years, but this one stands out as one of the most delightfully chaotic.

In the middle of this comedic storm is Carol Burnett as Sally, quietly sipping her drink and chatting with the soft-spoken stranger next to her, played by the incomparable Tim Conway. It begins innocently enough… until Sally admits she’s carrying a counterfeit $20 and isn’t sure whether she should turn it in to the FBI or simply take it to the bank.

Tim Conway’s deadpan advice? Pure comedy:
“Turn it into the bank? They’ll punch a hole in it — and you’ll be out twenty bucks!”

As Sally tries to decide what to do with her suspicious bill, Conway attempts to lighten the mood with his signature awkward charm. When he asks the bartender, played by Harvey Korman, “Got any chip?” Korman fires back, bone-dry: “No, just popcorn.”

Then the real trouble walks in: Cop Kerrigan — an officer who seems far more attentive than the situation calls for. Suddenly, the counterfeit bill becomes the hottest item in the room. Sally panics, Conway stammers, and misunderstandings begin piling up faster than the popcorn Korman refuses to serve.

Trying to escape suspicion, Sally quickly invents a harmless excuse: she simply wanted four $5 bills for her $20. The gentleman beside her plays along… but the entire exchange spirals into a hilarious mess of mixed signals and slippery handoffs.

Just when it feels like the mayhem can’t get any worse, the twist arrives.

The bartender, the cop, and Sally?
They’re all working together.

With a hidden box of money and a final toast to their successful scheme, the trio leaves viewers stunned — and laughing.

It’s everything that made The Carol Burnett Show legendary: perfect timing, unexpected turns, and actors who could take the simplest setup and turn it into comedic magic. No matter how many times fans revisit this sketch, it remains laugh-out-loud funny, a reminder of just how flawlessly Carol, Tim, and Harvey played off one another.

Classic comedy doesn’t age — and this scene is proof. It’s the perfect clip to share when you want to spread a little joy and relive the kind of television that made generations fall in love with laughter.
