Keith Urban Performs at the 59th CMA Awards — Even Without a Nomination

Keith Urban surprised fans when he stepped onto the stage at the 59th Annual CMA Awards on Wednesday, November 19.
Although the performance lineup had been announced in advance, Urban’s name appeared only days before the show—added in the same update that revealed the list of presenters.

This was especially unexpected since Urban wasn’t nominated for any awards this year. In fact, his last CMA nomination dates back to 2020. Still, for fans, seeing him perform was a rare and exciting moment.

    A Star-Studded Night of Performances

The three-hour broadcast from Nashville featured an impressive list of artists, including:

    Brandi Carlile

    Kenny Chesney

    Luke Combs

    Riley Green

    Miranda Lambert

    Ella Langley

    Patty Loveless

    Megan Moroney

    The Red Clay Strays

    Shaboozey

    Chris Stapleton

    Zach Top

Even among this stacked lineup, Urban’s appearance stood out because it was kept under wraps.

Why Keith Urban’s Song Wasn’t Announced in Advance

The CMA didn’t reveal what Urban would be performing ahead of time—leaving viewers guessing.
The reason? His performance was a surprise cameo during Lainey Wilson’s opening number.

Together, the two delivered part of Urban’s classic 1999 hit:
    “Where the Blacktop Ends.”

Keeping the secret paid off. The crowd erupted as Urban appeared, and he delivered a smooth, energetic performance—reminding everyone exactly why he remains one of country music’s most charismatic entertainers.
