Celine Dion and Joe Walsh Deliver an Unforgettable Rendition of George Harrison’s “Something”

On February 15, 2008, music fans witnessed a once-in-a-lifetime performance when Celine Dion invited Joe Walsh of The Eagles to join her on stage during her televised CBS special Celine Dion: That’s Just The Woman In Me.

Before the first note played, Dion addressed the audience with heartfelt reverence:

“There’s a George Harrison song I’ve wanted to sing forever.”

Moments later, Walsh walked onto the stage, guitar in hand — and what followed was pure musical magic.

    Two Worlds, One Song

Celine Dion, famed for her soaring emotional ballads (My Heart Will Go On, Because You Loved Me, Think Twice), and Joe Walsh, one of rock’s most iconic guitarists, might seem like an unlikely pairing. Yet, their collaboration on George Harrison’s “Something” — one of The Beatles’ most beloved love songs — proved that true artistry knows no boundaries.

The song, originally written by Harrison in 1969 for his then-wife Pattie Boyd, has long been regarded as one of the most romantic pieces in The Beatles’ catalog. Its timeless melody and tender lyrics have inspired countless covers over the decades — and Dion’s interpretation stood proudly among the best.

A Performance of Grace and Soul

Dion took the stage in a striking white feathered dress paired with black thigh-high boots, her elegance commanding attention from the first note. Her voice, as clear and emotive as ever, carried both the vulnerability and reverence the song deserves.

Rather than overpowering it, Dion approached “Something” with restraint — letting the beauty of the melody breathe, her phrasing deliberate and tender. Critics later praised her for balancing power with subtlety, calling the rendition “an emotional masterclass in control and interpretation.”

Meanwhile, Joe Walsh provided the perfect counterpoint. His soulful guitar tone — rich, warm, and steeped in his signature blues-rock sensibility — complemented Dion’s crystal-clear vocals flawlessly. When he stepped forward for the guitar solo, Walsh stayed faithful to Harrison’s original phrasing but infused it with his own gentle swagger, bridging rock and orchestral pop in a way only he could.

    A Tribute That Transcended Genres

As the final note faded, the crowd rose to its feet in thunderous applause. Viewers at home and critics alike were stunned by the chemistry between the two performers — a Canadian powerhouse vocalist and an American rock legend — coming together to honor one of the greatest songwriters of all time.

One fan summed it up best:

“A masterclass by two legends honoring a third.”

Fifteen years later, their duet on “Something” remains one of the standout moments of Dion’s career — a reminder that when genuine artistry meets genuine admiration, music can transcend time, genre, and expectation.
