Lady A’s Hillary Scott Says Life With Four Kids Feels “Sweet and Full of Joy”
Hillary Scott is soaking in every moment of new motherhood — again. The Lady A singer, 39, welcomed her fourth child, daughter Selah Jean, with husband Chris Tyrrell on July 25, and says their home has never felt happier.
“We are in a really sweet place right now,” Scott tells PEOPLE. “Our house is full, our hearts are full, and we’re just adjusting to life with a newborn again — it’s so fun. She’s doing wonderful.”
Big Sisters in Awe
Scott shared that Selah’s arrival has brought pure excitement to her older daughters — Eisele Kaye, 12, and 7-year-old twins Emory JoAnn and Betsy Mack.
“Her sisters are just so smitten with her,” Scott said. “Every morning feels like Christmas. They come downstairs, and if I’m feeding her or she’s waking up, they just light up. It’s the sweetest thing.”
The Lady A Baby Boom
It’s been a baby-filled season for the Lady A family. Scott’s bandmate Charles Kelley and his wife Cassie recently welcomed a baby boy, Archer Lancaster, on September 16, joining their 9-year-old son, Ward.
“We had gotten to a place where we thought, ‘Maybe this just isn’t in the cards for us,’” Kelley, 44, said. “Then the minute we stopped thinking about it, it just happened.”
And the group’s third member, Dave Haywood, also became a father of three when he and wife Kelli welcomed son Joseph Michael in July 2024.
“What are the chances we’re all in the same season of life again?” Scott marveled. “It brings us so much joy — not just for our families, but for the Lady A family as a whole.”
Gratitude After Loss
For Scott, these blessings are especially meaningful.
“It’s been 10 years since our pregnancy loss,” she reflected, referencing her miscarriage in 2015. “Your heart remembers, and your body remembers. You just have to choose gratitude and thankfulness that God saw fit to send us not just our twins, but another little girl.”
Back to the Stage — Baby in Tow
Lady A will hit the road this December for their “On This Winter’s Night (Volume 2)” holiday tour — their first Christmas album in over a decade. With Selah just four months old by then, Scott says the family plans to make it work.
“The plan is that we’re going to plan as best we can,” she joked. “The holiday season just becomes more magical with each year, and we’ll definitely bring that magic our kids inspire into every show.”
Scott, who calls this pregnancy her easiest yet, says she’s taking things one day at a time.
“I feel good,” she shared. “Selah was really sweet to me this time around. Having three older girls to wake up for and run around with has helped my recovery. I’m not putting pressure on myself — just feeling my way through each day.”
The Lady A Family Feels Complete
As for whether more babies might join the Lady A crew, Kelley laughed that the band may be closing that chapter.
“I think this is the end of that chapter,” he said. “We’re going to have a snip party — is that a thing? We can make it a thing! But seriously, our families feel complete. Now we can focus on our next journey — as a band and as one big family.”
With three members, nine kids, and a brand-new tour ahead, Lady A is entering this next chapter with hearts — and homes — full of love.
