Remembering Tayt Anderson: Ellen DeGeneres’ Beloved Guest Passes Away at 19

A teenager once beloved by millions through his appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show has passed away after a long and courageous battle with illness.

Tayt Anderson, who captured hearts with his humor, smile, and quiet strength, died on September 26 at just 19 years old.

    A Life Against the Odds

Tayt was born with only the right side of his heart. By the age of nine, he had endured 12 surgeries. Doctors had once told his parents he wouldn’t live past three months.

At 10, he received a heart transplant—a gift that extended his life but led to further complications, including post-transplant lymphoma during his teen years.

In 2024, he was diagnosed with bladder cancer at just 18. Despite aggressive treatments, the cancer spread rapidly to his pelvis, spine, abdomen, chest, and neck. By summer 2025, doctors gave him only four months to live.

    He made it three.

    His Family’s Tribute

In announcing his passing, Tayt’s family wrote:

“While our souls feel shattered and lost by this unimaginable grief, we are so thankful that Tayt is finally free. No more pain, no more appointments, no more treatments. Tayt was loved by so many, and he impacted countless lives with his incredible smile, his quiet strength, his kindness, and his beautiful love.”

    A Bond with Ellen

Tayt first appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2013, when Ellen learned that the then seven-year-old referred to her as his “girlfriend.” She responded warmly, calling him her “only boyfriend.”

His mother, Chrissy Becker, shared how much Ellen’s show lifted Tayt’s spirits during grueling hospital visits. Doctors and nurses even learned to time their rounds around Ellen’s airtime because Tayt insisted on watching without interruption.

Tayt returned to the show several times, including in 2015 when he shared the joyful news that he had received his new heart. Ellen and her team supported the family with gifts, trips, and practical help—including iPads, vacations, and even a new car.

Perhaps most importantly, Tayt carried with him Ellen’s character Dory’s famous mantra from Finding Nemo: “Just keep swimming.”

    Ellen’s Farewell

After hearing of Tayt’s passing, Ellen posted a heartfelt video tribute:

“He was a very special little human being. Just brought joy and life and laughter into every room that he was in. And I will miss him.”

    A Legacy of Light

Despite years of surgeries, pain, and treatments, Tayt lived fully—traveling, graduating high school, and inspiring countless families facing similar challenges.

His story was not just about illness—it was about resilience, joy, and love.

Though gone too soon, Tayt’s legacy remains: a teenager who taught the world how to smile through hardship, how to keep swimming, and how to live with courage beyond measure.
