Megan Moroney Shines Alongside Kenny Chesney On Sun Goes Down Tour

Rising star Megan Moroney has become an essential part of Kenny Chesney’s Sun Goes Down Tour. Not only does she open the shows, but she also joins Chesney on stage for a powerful duet of his hit “You and Tequila.” During the June 15 stop at Chicago’s Soldier Field, the two delivered a show-stopping performance that had the crowd on its feet.

Originally released over a decade ago, the GRAMMY-nominated track remains one of Chesney’s signature songs. Written by Deana Carter and Matraca Berg, the ballad was first recorded as a duet with Grace Potter for Chesney’s Hemingway’s Whiskey album. On tour, Moroney seamlessly takes over Potter’s part, blending her voice with Chesney’s for heartfelt harmonies that bring fresh life to the fan favorite.

On stage in Chicago, Moroney brought her own flair to the song in black cutoffs and a rhinestone-studded mesh crop top, while Chesney kept his trademark laid-back vibe in jeans, a tank top, and his signature beach cowboy hat. Together, their chemistry and energy elevated the emotional song that compares love’s ups and downs to the pull of tequila.

    A Full-Circle Moment For Moroney

This tour marks one of the biggest opportunities of Moroney’s young career. Before stepping onto stadium stages, she was once just another fan in the crowd. She reflected on the surreal experience, recalling how she saw Chesney at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2018 from the 300 level with friends.

“Old Dominion and Thomas Rhett opened that night, and I was the drunk girl in the nosebleeds,” she laughed in an interview with 94.9 The Bull’s Angie Ward. “Now I’m on that same stage singing with Kenny Chesney every night. If you’re that girl in the nosebleeds tonight, don’t give up.”

    Learning From A Legend

Moroney also sees the tour as a learning experience, studying Chesney’s stagecraft night after night. “When I’m watching him, I pay attention to scene changes, when the lights go out, what he’s doing,” she explained. “Just being able to watch him as a performer—something is really working, and I’m trying to learn as much as I can.”

    Tour Continues Through Summer

The Sun Goes Down Tour rolls on with stops across the country, including Kansas City on July 6, before wrapping up August 25. Alongside Chesney and Moroney, fans can also look forward to sets from Uncle Kracker and Zac Brown Band, making this summer’s tour one of country music’s must-see events.
