Riley Green Previews Emotional New Track “Make It Rain” Ahead of Don’t Mind If I Do (Deluxe) Release
Riley Green is tugging at heartstrings once again, this time with the preview of a new ballad, “Make It Rain,” set to appear on the deluxe edition of his Don’t Mind If I Do project. On Wednesday, August 20, the Alabama singer surprised fans by sharing nearly a minute of the aching track, giving listeners a taste of what’s to come when the album drops on August 29.
This isn’t the first time Green has teased the song. Back in February, he posted an acoustic performance of it to Instagram, and he’s since added it to his live shows throughout the summer. His latest share, however, features fuller production, signaling the track is now complete and ready for release.
Green’s signature rugged vocals shine as he delivers a gut-punch of a storyline about love, loss, and regret. With tender guitar strums anchoring the melody, he admits he can cause the tears and heartbreak, but when it comes to winning his love back, he falls short.
He sings:
“I can make it rain / I can make her tears fall down / Take everything you used to be and leave it puddled up on the ground / I can make it flood and watch it wash all away / Take all our love and pour it down the drain / Yeah I can make it rain / I can make it rain.”
The preview ends with a devastating realization:
“I can’t make her stay / And I can’t make her take me back / I can’t make her miss me / No I can’t do none of that.”
Fans immediately praised the song, filling the comments with messages like, “Yassss sad country music,” “Never misses!” and “This is the Riley Green I love.”
“Make It Rain” will be one of six new tracks on the Don’t Mind If I Do (Deluxe) collection, which expands the 2024 Gold-certified LP to 24 total songs. Other highlights include collaborations with Randy Houser on “Cowboy As It Gets” and Hannah McFarland on “I Just Need You.” Additional tracks cover everything from heartbreak (“What Am I Supposed to Do Now”) to country lifestyle pride (“Bet They’re Biting”) and musical tributes (“One to Willie”).
