Blake Shelton Steps In as Unexpected Hero, Rescues Group of Young Men From Mudslide in Oklahoma
Country star Blake Shelton is back in the spotlight—not for his romance with Gwen Stefani this time, but for an act of selfless kindness that’s making headlines across the nation.
While driving through Ardmore, Oklahoma, near the Washita River, the 39-year-old singer came across four young men—Bryar Blanton, Lenyell Blanton, Josh Turner, and Adrian Poplin—trapped in a muddy pit caused by a sudden landslide. Without hesitation, Shelton jumped into action.
How It All Unfolded
In an interview with ET, Bryar Blanton recounted the unexpected rescue. “We were just checking out the river when a couple of my buddies slipped into this huge mud hole and got stuck. Two hours went by and we couldn’t get them out,” Bryar explained.
That’s when he and Adrian decided to go look for help—and fate led them straight to Blake Shelton.
“Blake pulled up in his truck with his dog, Betty,” Bryar said. “He told us to hop in, then drove back to where the others were. He even tried pulling them out with his truck, but it wasn’t enough. So he promised to come back with his tractor.”
Yes, It Was Really Blake Shelton
Naturally, the group was starstruck. “I asked him for a photo, of course,” Bryar laughed. “He lives just 45 minutes away from me.”
But Shelton wasn’t in a rush to leave. After helping them out, he stuck around and chatted about hunting—bow in hand—and life in the area. “He’s just a super genuine guy,” Bryar said. “Kind and down-to-earth.”
Wow… 25 years ago today we lost my brother Richie Shelton. He's still my hero going strong. Wish everyone could've known him.

Twitter Thanks and a Classic Blake Reply
Bryar later tweeted his appreciation:
“Just wanna thank you for helping us yesterday man.”
To which Shelton replied:
“No problem.. Now you boys stay outta jail!!! Ha!!!”
A Pattern of Heroic Acts
This wasn’t Blake’s first brush with heroism. Back in June, on his birthday no less, he helped a man named Roho Hartman whose truck got stranded in floodwaters during Tropical Storm Bill.
Shelton’s kindness seems rooted in personal experience. Just a day before this latest rescue, he posted a tribute to his late brother Richie Shelton, who tragically died in a car accident when Blake was just 14.
“Wow… 25 years ago today we lost my brother Richie Shelton,” he tweeted on November 13. “He’s still my hero going strong. Wish everyone could’ve known him.”
From Country Star to Local Legend
Whether on stage or off-road, Blake Shelton continues to prove he’s more than just a country music icon—he’s a man who shows up when people need it most.
