“This is for you, Loretta.” With those simple yet soul-stirring words, the 56th CMA Awards exploded into a TRANSCENDING moment of musical magic and raw emotion. Reba McEntire, Carrie Underwood, and Miranda Lambert—three country queens from different eras—joined forces for a powerful TRIBUTE that “shook the walls” and “stirred the hearts.” Their voices rang out in harmony—honoring not only Loretta Lynn’s legendary music, but also the fiery spirit that redefined what it meant to be a woman in country music. In the audience, rising star Lainey Wilson sat, overwhelmed with emotion, wiping away tears as generations bowed in reverence to the queen who came before them.

Reba McEntire, Carrie Underwood, and Miranda Lambert Honor Loretta Lynn with Emotional CMA Awards 2022 Tribute

Nashville, TN — The 56th Annual CMA Awards on November 9, 2022, opened with a deeply emotional tribute that set the tone for the night — a celebration of Loretta Lynn, the late icon who transformed the face of country music. Taking the stage in a moment of collective reverence were three of country’s most powerful female voices: Reba McEntire, Carrie Underwood, and Miranda Lambert.

A Silence Fell, Then the Music Spoke
As the house lights dimmed inside Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, the crowd quieted in anticipation. The tribute began not with fanfare, but with heartfelt stillness — a moment to honor a woman whose music broke boundaries and spoke truths few dared to voice.

Miranda Lambert: Channeling Loretta’s Grit
First up, Miranda Lambert delivered a fiery take on “Don’t Come Home A-Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind)”, Loretta’s 1967 anthem of defiance and independence. Known for her own unapologetic voice and feminist edge, Lambert brought raw energy and unshakable poise to the stage — a fitting nod to a woman who paved the way for her kind of storytelling.

Carrie Underwood: Powerhouse With a Purpose
Next, Carrie Underwood stepped forward with “You Ain’t Woman Enough (To Take My Man)”, a song as bold now as it was in 1966. Her soaring vocals and commanding presence gave the classic new life, reminding the audience that Loretta’s messages of female strength and self-worth are as relevant as ever.

Reba McEntire: A Legend Remembers a Friend
Closing out the solo performances was Reba McEntire, who brought her signature warmth and sincerity to “You’re Looking at Country.” The moment was especially poignant — Reba was not only honoring a musical hero but paying tribute to a longtime friend and fellow pioneer. Her delivery felt personal, rich with memory and admiration.

Three Voices, One Legacy
But the most powerful moment came when all three women stood together, under soft lighting, and received a standing ovation. No elaborate speeches, no encore — just unity. Their presence spoke louder than words, representing the legacy Loretta Lynn left behind: a genre reshaped, a silence broken, and a path cleared for generations to come.

More Than a Farewell
Loretta Lynn was never just a performer. She was a truth-teller, a barrier-breaker, and a champion for women’s voices, especially in places where those voices were often ignored. From writing about birth control and divorce to giving voice to everyday struggles, she told the stories country music once avoided — and she told them with grace, fire, and a wink.

The 2022 tribute was not just a goodbye — it was a continuation. It was three generations of women standing in solidarity, carrying the torch Loretta lit decades ago.

“You’re looking at country,” Reba sang — and for one unforgettable night, country music looked like legacy, sisterhood, and strength.
