In the 2004 movie “The Notebook,” the 94-year-old actress played an older version of Rachel McAdams’ character, Allie.

At the age of 94, renowned actress Gena Rowlands, who played the older Allie in the 2004 movie “The Notebook,” has suddenly. Rowlands passed away at her Indian Wells, California, home on Wednesday afternoon, according to a spokeswoman for her son, filmmaker Nick Cassavetes. The Associated Press broke the story.

The official cause of Rowlands’ passing has not been made public. But Cassavetes had previously disclosed that his mother had spent the preceding five years suffering from Alzheimer’s.

This information was disclosed in an interview commemorating “The Notebook’s” 20th anniversary, wherein actress Catherine Cassavetes talked about the honesty they aimed for when depicting Allie’s struggle with dementia in the movie. He remarked, “It’s so surreal. We talked about it, she acted it out, and now we’ve actually experienced it.”

For her appearances in “A Woman Under the Influence” and “Gloria,” Gena Rowlands received four Emmy Awards during her distinguished career. She was also nominated twice for the Academy Award for Best Actress. She further cemented her reputation as one of Hollywood’s most gifted and well-respected actors by winning two Golden Globe Awards.
