Ann Curry, the esteemed journalist and former co-anchor of NBC’s Today show, has embarked on a quieter yet impactful journey since her departure from the spotlight in 2015.

Born on November 19, 1956, Curry’s illustrious career in journalism spans several decades, marked by her dedication to reporting and storytelling. Raised in Guam and later Oregon, Curry’s passion for journalism blossomed early, leading her to pursue a career in broadcasting.

Curry’s journey in journalism began in 1978 as an intern at KTVL, an NBC affiliate in Oregon. Rising through the ranks, she became the station’s first female news reporter, laying the foundation for a groundbreaking career ahead.

In subsequent years, Curry’s career took her to KGW in Portland and later to Los Angeles, where she earned acclaim as a reporter for a CBS affiliate, garnering two Emmy Awards for her exceptional work.

In 1990, Curry’s career reached new heights as she joined NBC News. She initially served as a correspondent in Chicago before landing a prominent role as an anchor on NBC News at Sunrise. Her talent and dedication propelled her to the coveted position of news anchor on Today in 1997, where she remained until 2011.

Throughout her tenure at NBC, Curry’s contributions extended beyond Today, as she also served as co-anchor of Dateline NBC and made notable appearances on NBC Nightly News.

Despite her professional achievements, Curry’s departure from Today in 2012 was met with public scrutiny and speculation. While the exact reasons for her exit remained unclear, Curry continued to contribute to NBC News until 2015.

In the years following her departure, Curry shifted her focus to a diverse array of projects, demonstrating her versatility and commitment to impactful storytelling. She founded a multi-platform media company, produced the PBS series We’ll Meet Again, delivered a TED Talk on restoring trust in journalism, and hosted TNT’s Chasing the Cure.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions to journalism, Curry was honored with the Murrow Lifetime Achievement Award from Washington State University’s Edward R. Murrow College of Communication in 2022.

Despite maintaining a low profile on social media, Curry occasionally resurfaces to share glimpses of her life and reflections with her audience. Her enduring passion for journalism and storytelling continues to inspire audiences around the world, cementing her legacy as a trailblazer in the field.
