For fifteen years, I kept a box my daughters knew almost nothing about.

Inside were birthday invitations their mother never answered.

School photographs she returned unopened.

Recital programs.

Christmas cards.

Graduation announcements.

Letters written in childish handwriting that eventually became teenage handwriting before stopping altogether.
