Legendary Radio Actress Peggy Webber Dies at 100 After an Extraordinary Career

Peggy Webber, the celebrated radio performer whose remarkable career stretched from the golden age of broadcasting into the modern era, has died at the age of 100.

Webber passed away on August 15 at an independent living facility in Napa, California. Her son, Rob Sinskey, confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter, saying his mother died of natural causes.

Although Webber may not have achieved the same level of celebrity recognition as some of the Hollywood legends she worked alongside, her contributions to radio, film and television made her an important figure in American entertainment history.

She Discovered Radio at an Early Age

Born on September 15, 1925, in Laredo, Texas, Webber later attended Tucson High School in Arizona. Her fascination with performing emerged remarkably early.

She was only 12 when she made her radio debut, beginning a relationship with the medium that would ultimately define much of her professional life.

By the 1940s, Webber had become an extraordinarily versatile voice performer, capable of creating an impressive variety of characters.

Time magazine highlighted her remarkable range in August 1946, writing:

“In three years, her latex voice has supplied radio with 150 different characters on some 2,500 broadcasts.” Continue Reading ⬇️
