    The Night My Sister Chose to Leave

    It was raining hard the night my twin sister Emma appeared at my front door.

    The moment she stepped inside, I knew something was terribly wrong.

    She tried to smile, but her face told a different story. A bruise had formed around one eye, there was a cut along her cheek, and dark marks circled her wrists.

    I did not need many words to understand.

    She had been living with fear for far too long.

    As identical twins, we had shared almost every season of life together. Seeing her injuries felt like witnessing someone strike a part of my own heart.

    My first response was anger.

    My second was determination.

    But as we sat together through the night, I realized that anger alone could not give her the future she needed.

    She did not need someone to take revenge on her behalf.

    She needed a safe way forward.
