Reba McEntire is teaming up once again with her former on-screen daughter, Joanna Garcia Swisher, for an upcoming episode of Happy’s Place—and longtime fans are in for a treat.
Executive producer Kevin Abbott also shared a few updates on what’s ahead for Bobbie, Steve, and the rest of the tavern crew, teasing plenty of laughs and a little romantic intrigue.
At Happy’s Place, the bar truly becomes a stage when owner Bobbie (played by Reba McEntire) convinces accountant Steve ( Pablo Castelblanco ) to audition for a local mattress store commercial—just to keep him occupied. The part? A Roaring Twenties time traveler discovering the wonders of modern sleep. The downside? Bobbie quickly finds herself pulled into rehearsal duty.
“Steve starts critiquing Bobbie’s acting as they read lines together,” Abbott reveals. “Let’s just say he’s not impressed.” Abbott also couldn’t stop laughing at Castelblanco’s physical comedy. “Pablo always finds some unexpected angle. What he did to embody a 1920s time traveler had me doubled over all week.”
The cast and writers enjoyed the meta “acting” storyline so much that it sparked another episode idea. Enter “Social Discontent,” which features a guest appearance from Garcia Swisher as a Knoxville influencer who convinces everyone to film social media promos for the bar. The episode marks a nostalgic reunion for McEntire and Garcia Swisher, who famously played mother and daughter on Reba in the early 2000s.
Criticism doesn’t stop there. Bobbie’s younger sister and co-owner Isabella ( Belissa Escobedo ) offers feedback on chef Emmett’s ( Rex Linn ) latest appetizer, Armadillo Eggs. According to Abbott, Emmett is less than thrilled. “He’s not exactly the type to appreciate notes from someone who doesn’t instantly recognize his culinary genius.”
As for Isabella’s love life, fans wondering about a reunion with her professor beau—introduced in the December 19 episode “Izzy and the Professor”—may have to wait. “They’ve gone their separate ways for now,” Abbott says, “but that doesn’t mean he couldn’t pop back up.”
And for viewers invested in Bobbie and Emmett’s slow-burn romance? Abbott offers a promising tease: “They’ve got a lot of interesting stuff coming very soon.”
Between nostalgic reunions, playful performances, and simmering relationships, Happy’s Place is clearly just getting warmed up.
