The Holiday Jam You Never Knew You Needed
The holiday season is officially here, which means Christmas music is blasting for some… and being avoided at all costs by others. While plenty of people crank up the Christmas playlists before the first frost, I’m firmly in the after Thanksgiving camp. Not because I’m obsessed with Thanksgiving — I just think every holiday deserves its own moment.
And apparently, science agrees.
Psychologist Linda Blair has warned that listening to Christmas music too early can actually have a negative effect on your mental health. According to her, the nonstop, repetitive push of holiday tunes can trigger thoughts of holiday chores — gift buying, travel planning, party hosting — and end up stressing you out long before the holiday even arrives.
As she puts it:
“You’re simply spending all of your energy trying not to hear what you’re hearing.”
So, if you’re feeling burned out on the traditional stuff, allow me to introduce what may become your next holiday hyper-fixation.
Because what’s better than taking one of the biggest country hits of the year and dusting it with a little Christmas magic?
Ella Langley's "Choosin' Texas" jumps 4-1 on this week's Hot Country Songs chart, becoming her first career No. 1 on the chart.

Ella Langley Is Unstoppable Right Now
Ella Langley has been on an absolute hot streak since her monster duet “You Look Like You Love Me” with Riley Green — the first song in CMA history to sweep Music Video of the Year, Musical Event of the Year, Song of the Year, and Single of the Year.
Now she’s back on top again. Her latest single, “Choosin’ Texas,” co-written with Miranda Lambert, just became her first #1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, jumping from #4 to #1.
The track originally went viral for fueling the never-ending fan rumors about her, Riley Green, and Megan Moroney — especially thanks to its art: a cowboy-hat-wearing man and a blonde woman in a red convertible. Fans instantly started whispering “love triangle,” and Langley instantly said, “I’ll never tell.”
But now the song is going viral for a completely different reason…
The Mashup Nobody Asked For… but Everybody Loves
A traveling DJ on TikTok, DJ Vic, cooked up the most unexpectedly addictive mashup of the season:
Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” × Wham!’s ’80s Christmas classic “Last Christmas.”
Did anyone ask for this? No.
Did anyone expect it to work? Absolutely not.
Does it absolutely slap? Oh, 100% yes.
He starts with the twangy intro of “Choosin’ Texas,” then merges Langley’s chorus seamlessly with the iconic synth-melody of “Last Christmas.” The blend completely transforms the vibe while still making perfect emotional sense — both songs deal with heartbreak, longing, and choosing the wrong person for the wrong reasons.

It is, simply put, way too good.
Fans agree:
“OKAYYYY, wearing cowboy boots while I hang Christmas lights.”
“MY TWO PERSONALITIES.”
“Best Christmas mashup of the season.”
“I need this on Spotify ASAP.”
“This is everything I didn’t know I needed.”
Honestly? Same.
And if this is the direction Christmas mashups are going, we might all become holiday-music people sooner than expected.
