For Lady A’s Charles Kelley and his wife Cassie McConnell Kelley, love truly struck at first sight.
“I’m not gonna say it was like a movie, but it was like a movie,” Charles laughed, recalling the night they met.
Love at First Sight
The introduction was no accident — Charles’ bandmate Hillary Scott had secretly planned to set him up with Cassie during a group dinner. Cassie’s sister was dating Lady A’s keyboard player at the time, which gave Hillary the perfect excuse to invite her along.
“There were about 15 or 20 of us at dinner, but Cassie and I just kept locking eyes,” Charles said. “She was the prettiest girl that had ever paid me any attention. Everywhere we went that night, we ended up in the corner talking. We just never left each other’s side.”
The next day, Charles wasted no time. “I called her up and said, ‘Can I take you on an official date? I’d love to take you out to dinner,’” he recalled. From that moment on, they were inseparable.
A Fairytale Wedding
After a whirlwind romance, Charles proposed to Cassie in December 2008. The couple tied the knot less than a year later, saying “I do” in a romantic beach ceremony in the Bahamas on July 6, 2009.
Their relationship has remained one of country music’s sweetest love stories, often admired by fans for its warmth and authenticity.
Overcoming Challenges and Welcoming Their Son
In 2015, Charles and Cassie shared the exciting news that they were expecting their first child — a blessing that came after two years of fertility struggles.
“When you’re young and healthy and ready to start a family, you just don’t imagine there will be any problems,” Cassie told ABC News. Doctors gave them only a one percent chance of conceiving naturally, but the couple’s faith never wavered. Just before they were set to begin IVF treatments, Cassie became pregnant.
Their son, Ward Charles Kelley, was born on February 11, 2016. “We feel like our life just began today and are so grateful for a healthy baby boy in our arms,” the couple shared at the time.
