Ella Langley & Riley Green Win CMA Musical Event of the Year for “You Look Like You Love Me”

Before releasing their sultry duet “You Look Like You Love Me,” Ella Langley and Riley Green suspected the song might turn a few heads. As it turns out, they were right — but the reaction has been nothing short of extraordinary.

At the 2024 CMA Awards on Wednesday, November 20, the pair took home the Musical Event of the Year award, solidifying their place among country music’s brightest rising stars.

A Song That Started a Fire

Reflecting on the song’s viral success, Langley admitted she knew from the start that it might spark conversation.

“When we wrote the song, we were laughing thinking this might cause some marriages, maybe some divorces, and definitely some children. I like it,” the 25-year-old joked.

Green, 36, recalled how quickly fans gravitated toward the track after its release.

“I think one of the first times we played it, you open your phone the next day and you couldn’t get away from it,” he said. “It all kind of makes sense. The song’s just a huge hit and people really latched onto it from the first time it came out.”

    CMA Glory & Gratitude

Speaking backstage after their win, the duo expressed disbelief over beating out such tough competition.

“This song happened so organically,” Langley shared. “Riley being on the song and writing his verse is the same thing. Everything happened the way it was supposed to, and I’m just really grateful to be here tonight.”

Green nodded in agreement, describing the moment as “wild” and saying they were honored to be recognized among “some really good people.”

    Longtime Friends, Natural Chemistry

Their collaboration wasn’t a random pairing — Langley and Green have known each other for years. Before “You Look Like You Love Me” even took off, Green invited her to join him on tour.

“I had just cut the song,” Langley recalled. “I was like, ‘Dang, imagine if Riley were to write a second verse of this song. Just him talking. It’s a different thing and stuff that we both grew up on. It’s just been such a cool experience to experience all of this with somebody.’”

In a past interview, Langley revealed that Green was “probably the first famous person I ever met.” Both hail from Alabama, and their shared roots make their success even sweeter.

“He was playing all the same bars I went to, and I played the same bars as him,” she said. “It’s cool to see Alabama people winning!”

Just Good Friends — For Real

As the song’s steamy lyrics and undeniable chemistry fueled rumors of a real-life romance between the two, Langley set the record straight.

Despite what fans might think, she and Green are simply “good friends.”

Whether it’s friendship or fate, their connection clearly translates into musical magic — and their CMA win is proof that “You Look Like You Love Me” has struck a lasting chord with country fans everywhere.
