18-Year-Old American Idol Standout Slater Nalley Lands Record Deal & Releases Debut Single “Foolish Pride”

A Star Is Born on American Idol

At just 18 years old, Slater Nalley has gone from high school student to one of country music’s most promising young voices. The Atlanta native first captured hearts earlier this year during Season 23 of American Idol when he auditioned with an emotional original song, “Traces of You.”

The song, inspired by a poem written by his high school English teacher in memory of her late son, left judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Katy Perry speechless.

“You just stick to walking out on stage and singing with your heart, and the rest will take care of itself,” Luke Bryan told him after the performance.

Lionel Richie added simply, “Sometimes, we don’t have to vote.”

Slater’s heartfelt delivery and natural storytelling carried him all the way to the Top 5, before his journey ended just shy of the finale. But it was clear that his time in the spotlight was only just beginning.

A Major Milestone: Signing with Warner Music Nashville

Fast-forward five months, and Slater Nalley has officially signed a record deal with Warner Music Nashville/Warner Records, in partnership with 19 Entertainment — the same company behind American Idol.

The label is home to country heavyweights like Cody Johnson, who memorably performed with Slater and Carrie Underwood during the show.

“I am overjoyed to announce that I have officially signed a record deal with Warner Music,” Slater told Music Row. “Their team genuinely cares about the power of music and truly believe in me. I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us.”

Debut Single “Foolish Pride” Out Now

To celebrate the big announcement, Slater dropped his debut single, “Foolish Pride,” on October 17 — a song with deep personal roots.

Originally written when he was just 15 years old, the track explores themes of self-reflection and accountability. Slater first performed it during Hollywood Week on American Idol, introducing it as a story about “realizing when you’re the problem in a relationship or friendship.”

“I’ve performed it for years, and after its debut on American Idol, I knew I had to share it with the world,” Slater said. “I’m so grateful to everyone who helped bring this song to life.”

With his distinct mix of vulnerability, lyrical depth, and Southern charm, “Foolish Pride” perfectly captures the essence of who Slater is as an artist — honest, introspective, and wise beyond his years.

    A Promising Future Ahead

Described as “an 18-year-old wordsmith” on his official Facebook page, Slater is determined to bring his authentic storytelling to a wider audience. His signing marks the next big chapter in what’s already been a breakout year.

With Warner Music Nashville backing him and “Foolish Pride” already resonating with fans, Slater Nalley’s journey from American Idol standout to signed recording artist is proof that true talent always finds its stage.
